When you become a gestational carrier, or surrogate, you agree to carry a child for an individual or couple who is unable to do so. You will not be genetically related to the child. Instead, the female intended parent, or an egg donor will provide the eggs for the pregnancy.
As a surrogate, you will conceive with help from in vitro fertilization (IVF). You’ll find that there are several steps in the process of IVF and surrogacy.
- Screenings. To begin the surrogacy medical process for surrogates, you must undergo physical, medical, and psychological screenings, as well as an ultrasound of your uterus. We want to make sure you can safely carry a baby as a surrogate. At FCLV, your health and the health of your baby are our top priority.
- Embryo transfer. You will take birth control pills to regulate your cycle and hormone medications to prepare your body for pregnancy. Then, when your uterus is adequately prepared and ready for implantation, one of our Las Vegas surrogacy experts will perform the embryo transfer.
- Pregnancy test. About 10 days later, you will have a test to measure your pregnancy hormone levels. If you are pregnant, our team may give you another test a few days later to make sure your hormone levels continue to rise. If you are not pregnant, one of our doctors will perform another embryo transfer when the time is right.
- Monitoring and prenatal care. After a successful embryo transfer, our Las Vegas surrogacy experts will monitor you for 10 weeks. At the 10-week mark, our team will release you to your OB/GYN and you will receive standard prenatal care.
