FCLV offers surrogacy for lesbian couples and single women
Although it usually isn’t necessary, surrogacy for lesbian couples and single women may be essential in some cases. When a woman or couple is unable to carry a pregnancy, she can rely on a selfless gestational carrier to carry and deliver her baby. Our Las Vegas surrogacy experts want you to feel comfortable with the surrogacy process before moving forward. Here is some information to help you gain a clearer understanding of what is involved.
Surrogacy for lesbian couples and single women starts with a consultation
An initial consultation is the first step of surrogacy for lesbian couples and single women. Our Las Vegas surrogacy experts can conduct this appointment in person, over the phone or via Skype. During your appointment, you will get to know your fertility doctor and IVF case manager. Your doctor will take time to review your medical history and develop a customized treatment plan.
A few days after your appointment, you will receive a welcome email from your IVF case manager. This email will include information about your next steps, treatment options and pricing information. When you are ready to move forward, you will let your case manager know.
You or your partner, depending on who is providing the eggs, will then undergo initial fertility testing. The goal is to identify any barriers to conception and determine which types of medications will be best to stimulate the production of multiple eggs in the ovaries.
The next steps involve selecting a sperm donor and a gestational carrier
Surrogacy for lesbian couples and single women also involves selecting a sperm donor. Our Las Vegas surrogacy experts can connect you with reputable sperm banks where you can select an anonymous donor. You can also use a friend or a family member as your donor. All donors must undergo and pass medical screening before providing sperm.
After selecting a sperm donor, you or your partner will begin taking fertility medications to stimulate the development of multiple eggs. The next step is egg retrieval at our office. This is an outpatient procedure that involves light sedation.
Our laboratory will fertilize the eggs using sperm from your selected donor. The team will then freeze all of the resulting embryos. They may also perform preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) to screen for chromosomal anomalies and determine the sex of the embryos.
You must also select a gestational carrier, or surrogate, to carry your child. Our Las Vegas surrogacy experts can connect you with a respected surrogacy agency. After selecting your gestational carrier, she will undergo testing to clear her for the embryo transfer.
During this procedure, your fertility doctor will transfer one of your embryos to the uterus of the gestational carrier. After 10 days, she will take a pregnancy test. Our Las Vegas surrogacy experts will take care of her for the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. At 10 weeks, she will transition to her OB/GYN’s care.
Reciprocal IVF as another option for lesbian couples
We also offer reciprocal IVF at our Las Vegas clinic for lesbian couples. With this fertility treatment, one female partner provides the eggs to create embryos. The other partner will undergo the embryo transfer procedure and carry the pregnancy. This arrangement allows both partners to share a biological connection to their baby.
